Huaka'i Encounters is a series of experiential learning field trips for students in grades 4 through 8.
Huakaʻi Encounters aims to increase exposure to and apply current academic standards and skills while infusing Native Hawaiian innovation, incorporating the arts, and highlighting multiple career connections around the island.
Our vision is to take students on an educational huakaʻi(field trip) to explore Native Hawaiian traditions and practices, connecting the past to the present by highlighting the science, engineering, and mathematical innovations of Native Hawaiians.
Our goal is to provide experiential learning opportunities (field trips) that will ignite students’ imagination, enhance awareness of Hawaiian culture, provide opportunities to demonstrate science knowledge, and learn about different careers, as they participate in exciting and academically rigorous activities.
Our mission is to help inspire the next generation to mālama ʻāina, continue to learn Hawaiian culture and apply STEM skills and knowledge to their future endeavors.
